Beethoven - String Quartet No.14
Beethoven - String Quartet No.14, op.131
Syzygy sometimes play the first movement of this beautiful string quartet because it is so beautiful but also because for us it represents the avant-garde. That may sound strange considering it is Beethoven, but there is something so unusual and searching in the opening movement, it sounds very unlike Beethoven in a number of resepects. The rhythmic simplicity veils harmonic depths and intertwining lines which chart the history of the avant-garde. Sometimes audiences require something slightly more conservative so this is the kind of piece we might offer in a pretentious effort to be subversive.
